Erika Johnson has a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the famed Manhattan School of Music (MSM) and a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Performance, magna cum laude, from Florida A&M University. Her passion for classical performance has allowed her to creatively thrive in competitive programs and has driven her to become a vibrant participant in many classical vocal performance communities. Her journey started in opera at the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas, one of the most prestigious arts schools in the country.
As a college student, Erika participated in the Varna International Music Academy’s Young Artist Summer Program in Varna, Bulgaria, and was selected to train at the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute in Brevard, North Carolina, where she performed in a production of Into the Woods. She also performed at the Paris International Music Academy’s Masterclasses and Concerts in the Heart of Paris.
During her undergrad, Erika exposed her entire college campus to classical music through her performances. Her skill and natural charisma inspired her peers to name her Miss Florida A&M University.
Erika then studied in New York at MSM under the direction of Juilliard Master’s graduate, baritone, Sydney Outlaw, where she grew her vocal gift and began to cultivate a thriving life and career in the classical arts.
Erika has devoted ten years to mastering and developing her vocal instrument. In that time, she has taken on numerous performance opportunities domestically and internationally. She has performed at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall multiple times, at the United Negro Fund’s Annual Awards banquet as guest soloist, at the 2023 International Alpha Kappa Alphas Convention in Dallas - where twenty-three thousand members attended, and has sung the national anthem at a New York Knicks NBA basketball game.
Erika’s music is not solely an individual pursuit but something she wants to share with the world. As Erika embarks on the next chapter of her life, she continues to hone her vocal instrument to captivate audiences all over the world.
